**PosT (Proof of spacetime)**
Proof-of-spacetime (PoST) is a consensus algorithm that’s closely related to [proof-of-capacity (PoC)](https://golden.com/wiki/Proof-of-capacity-4N9ZJG8), which is sometimes called proof-of-space or proof-of-storage.
The idea of proof-of-capacity is to require network participants to demonstrate a financial interest in the success of the network by allocating some form of memory or disk space towards it. The proof can then be used to achieve [decentralized](https://golden.com/wiki/Decentralization-EK65N)consensus in a [blockchain](https://golden.com/wiki/Blockchain-VWP) network or other decentralized protocol. Proof of financial interest in the network is necessary in a decentralized system in order to defend against [sybil attacks](https://golden.com/wiki/Sybil_attack-8V593R).
Proof-of-capacity is similar to [proof-of-work](https://golden.com/wiki/Proof-of-work_system-63GMAM), with the key difference being that in PoC storage capacity demonstrates financial investment in the network in place of computing power and the associated cost of electricity consumption in PoW. This makes proof-of-capacity potentially less impactful on the environment than proof-of-work
Chia Network develops a blockchain and smart transaction platform created by the inventor of BitTorrent, [Bram Cohen](https://techcrunch.com/2018/03/28/chia-vs-bitcoin/). It implements the first new Nakamoto consensus algorithm since Bitcoin in 2008. Proofs of Space and Time replace energy intensive “proofs of work.”

Their Mining Program is in the very early states and there is only a solo mining program. You have to allocate a lot of space on your ssd/hard drive in order to have efficient mining performance. I have created 3 Harvester Plots on my 3TB hard drive, each plotting process takes up roughly 36 hours. You have to sync with the whole blockchain and run a full Node while farming/harvesting on the network.
The process is very unfriendly for SSDs and makes a lot of damage on them. If you have HDDs then, it can be very good and profiting to put these laying around pieces into work, but it takes a lot of time. One 208GB Plot takes up roughly 800GB space on a hard drive, since each plot requires 3x times temporary space with the allocation.
