Today, I stumbled upon a wallet. Some of you may well know it, but today was the first time I became aware of it. Was simply through sifting through information on the Blockchain and nothing more. Wallet 967 starts around 2010 and it’s first three transactions are +50 BTC each. This has a strong indication that this address was mining bitcoin in its early days.
Subsequent transactions took place including deposits of 3,700 BTC, 9,000 BTC and withdrawals of 3000 BTC and 9000 BTC as well. Even deposits of 12,000 BTC! These transactions were definitely in the early days of Bitcoin before many exchanges or price oracles existed.
Then, on 2010-07-25 at 01:35:23 at Block height 70071, 9,000 BTC was withdrawn (worth 476.78 USD on that day!)
This left a balance of 31,000 BTC valued at $1,642 on 2010-07-25. (@ $0.053 per BTC) Over the years, no other withdrawals have taken place. Only dust deposits.
The balance today is 31,000.07 BTC ($917,930,397 @ $29,610.59) For comparison, at Block 707440, 31,000.07 BTC was worth $1,900,642,243 @ $61,310.9.
