The 21-year old male charged in connection to a series of stabbings in Davis, California, entered the U.S. in 2009 as an unaccompanied minor and is now on a detainer by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Carlos Alejandro Reales-Dominguez, who until a fews weeks ago was a UC Davis student, was charged Friday in connection with three recent stabbing near the campus, including two that were fatal.

He came from El Salvador as a child and entered the United States near Galveston, Texas, said ICE official, according to multiple media outlets.

Dominguez’s case was “administratively” closed in 2012 after he was transferred to the custody of a family member, the official said.

The ICE detainer would put Dominguez into federal custody if he is released from the custody of local officials.

Dominguez was in his third year at the University of California Davis until late last month. He left the school for “academic reasons,” the university said.
