Bitcoin is an open, borderless and permissionless protocol, just like TCP/IP. Not a company.
AOL is a company, that provided online services to Americans. I’m specifically not saying they provided Internet, because that’s exactly what they didn’t. They let you connect to their own private network. It was only later that they became an actual Internet provider.
