Farhad Moshiri has caused surprise among Everton fans by claiming that the decision over whether or not to sack Frank Lampard after yet another defeat today is not his to make.
Both the club’s owner and Chairman, Bill Kenwright, were “door-stepped” by a Sky Sports reporter outside the London Stadium this afternoon following the 2-0 defeat to fellow-strugglers West Ham and asked if Lampard’s time was now up.
Kenwright said that “it’s been a bad run of results for us all but, no, I would never say such a thing to you,” perhaps suggesting that there would be better ways of delivering such news.
Meanwhile, Moshiri, who attended an Everton match for the first time since October 2021, said: “I can’t comment [on the question of whether Lampard would now be sacked]. It’s not my decision.”

That could be an acknowledgement that the power to make a determination on the manager’s future has finally shifted to Director of Football, Kevin Thelwell – which would mark a change from previous managerial selections which appeared to have been made unilaterally by Moshiri himself – or that it would be a collective decision by the Everton Board.
The Blues fell to their eighth defeat in nine games in all competitions with another largely hopeless display in East London, falling two goals behind before half-time.
Lampard made changes at half-time, bringing on two midfield players in attempt to change the game but left summer signing Neal Maupay and young Ellis Simms on the bench.
Lampard helped guide Everton to Premier League safety with a game to spare last season but has overseen just three Premier League wins in 2022-23 that has left the club joint-bottom of the table and in desperate need of a change in results.
Kenwright admitted that it was “a bad time” for Everton and that “we just need to start winning games.”

Just seen Moshiri’s response to question about Frank Lampard’s future. “Not my decision to make”. was his reply. WHAT!!? Then whose decision is it to make for God’s sake? The guy is so woefully out of his depth and sinking like a stone. I’ve been a Blue since my first visit to Goodison Park in 1963 and he is – in my opinion – undoubtedly our worst ever signing during that time. A complete buffoon. Just when you think the script can’t become any more ridiculous, this guy pops up on screen and takes it all to another level. its a club which cant be run, cant be sold, no one would buy us at £50m let alone £500m to payback Moshiri and another £300m for the ground, and another £150m to get rid of Lampard and team and then satisfy the new manager’s endless list of players he’ll require, as he cant get a tune out of this dross.
I honestly don’t where we go – I can see us being relegated, its a no brainer, I can see Bramley Moor work stopping for years, never ever to restart again. it’ll be drop and drop until we get rid of all the deadwood we’ve got at every level in the club and we start to rebuild – 5 years ?????
I;ve been a blue since 1960 and saw the likes of Young, Vernon, Latchford, Harvey, Ball, Kendall, Reid, Sheedy, Gray, Stevens, and then the mediocrity of the 90;s, 00’s, 10’s but these times we are witnessing are unforgivable. Terrible terrible decisions, wasted £500m on players, managers, but now the Board are showing utter contempt for the fans and we are being dragged through a thoroughly public execution of our club – we are the laughing stock of football and I just cant see a way out.

Was prepared to give Lampard the benefit of the doubt till today. Hes a nice bloke but clearly not up to the job. He cant motivate the players, coach them to stop making basic mistakes. They cant defend or make half a dozen goal scoring opportunities in a game. How many shots on goal today? The players arent world beaters but theyre better than this. He has a huge back room staff so what the hell are they doing?

Maybe Moshiri has told the board, we’ve appointed the manager you wanted, we have a DoF we all wanted, sort it out, I’m done with being blamed for the managerial merry-go-round.
The fans wanted Martinez out, I got Koeman in, he got us in Europe, but preferred golf to coaching, and the fans wanted him out. To protect my (and Mr. Usmanov’s) investment we hired Fireman Sam, who got the club to 8th, and just missed out on European football, but the fans hated his ‘anti-football’, plus Marco was now available. So, maybe this one was on me, but, I can still blame the fans.
Marco did very well in his first season, apart from the usual annual Everton flip-flop show before the end of the season. Instead of getting the players that Marco wanted and needed for his system, Bill and I got the players we wanted, but made it look like M. Brands decisions.
The result being Marco sacked, and the euphoria of Big Dunc stuffing a Lampard led inept Chelski, and emotionally hugging a ballboy whilst wearing someone called ‘Howard’s watch’? The fans got what they wanted…Another manager!
This time, the one and only, I ‘Fantastico Farhad’ managed to lure Don Carlo to Goodison. Unfortunately, due to me not having been entirely truthful about the state of the club financially, or training facility wise; plus, seeing close-up, just how limited our squad was, he began to have doubts. His quotes “I’m not a magician” and “The team play better without the ball” spring to mind. The final straw for him, despite loving the city, and the walks on Crosby beach, was the armed scallies who burgled his house, whilst his daughter was in…
So, as soon as Real Madrid came calling he was off.
What was I meant to do, I scoured a whole 10 mile radius of Goodison and found this Mr. Benitez in need of work, who had won things ages ago, but he had ‘pedigree’. Hopefully, the fans won’t realise he was a RS legend, and he’ll repeat his magic for us. I’ll even throw him the last £2m in the transfer kitty to strengthen the squad…
Come October, we’re 4th! Hussar!!!
Come January we’re 15th, and the worst team in the league beat us 2-0. Bye-bye Rafa,
And now, see the top…

This is a multi million pound business – a member of the worlds most lucrative football league – the lack of direction is criminal. I think Moshiri has decided to leave all footballing decisions to Kenwright et al – hence his comment. If Martinez or Moyes were available right now, either would be in. Problem is that Kenwright doesnt have anyone else in his thoughts…so on we go – the blind leading the blind.

Sadly, my socialist principles went right out the fkn window and I thought Chelsea did it so fk where the money’s coming from this is our chance to be great again. The Russian assault on Ukraine and subsequent crackdown on dirty Rusky cash suddenly put an end to our golden goose (despite decades of dodgy dough washing through “The City”)
I never thought I was so mercenary but…anyway as we’ve witnessed instead of getting the administration side of the club in place and then building the team with a plan in mind and a vision and a style, Moshiri allowed the snake oil salesman kenwright to keep steering the Titanic towards the Iceberg.
As we have all witnessed our beloved club has been turned into a dogs dinner by a succession of managers and overpaid over-rated mercenary players.
Of all our dalliances with relegation that I have lost sleep over since my first game in the 70-71 season this is by far the worst as this “shower” of players as badly coached and motivated as they seem to be just have no fight or desire to win and are by far the worst squad in the division.
I don’t know who the next manager should be but we should not surrender our Premiere status yet, take it back to basics, go 4-4-2, grind out points and we CAN still survive, wont be pretty? Could it be any worse than what we have had to endure for the last few years?
It takes a revolution to make a solution.

A club with a massive fan base and with a superb location post-Brexit, in a world city, might be rather appealing. If the team is in crisis then the purchase price (even with a substantial contribution to the stadium costs) will be accordingly lower and Mr Moshiri (whose fortune after Usmanov’s erasure now lies away from the UK) will have to take a hit.
Everton FC is a massively attractive asset.

Jeff @74 absolutely correct. My mate actually worked on this project for a while before leaving LOR and going off to manage parts of HS2.
We go down with this wage structure (96% of revenues), were absolutely fucked without a massive overhaul of the playing staff and P&L. Then revenues drop, with less tv and marketing money, and that multiple has to shrink again. And further down we go.
So unless the club is aware of this – blatantly they arent because these diabolical c**ts couldnt manage themselves out of a paper bag – were in serious danger of being in Kenwright Stadium for the opening season of League One in August 2024.
What a fucking laughing stock. How could anyone as an Evertonian, with a chance to make a difference (being on the board, for example) possibly ever put up with this? We are witnessing before our eyes the complete dismantling of one of English footballs great institutions, piece by piece.

Moshiri is in London for a reason – no doubt.
I take this as a few others have suggested that he is pointing the finger at Kenwright.
Of course Moshiri can make the decision to sack Lampard but he knows exactly what he’s doing with that short reply.
Undoubtedly designed to ramp the pressure up on Kenwright.
Perhaps the penny has dropped with Moshiri and his attitude is ” if I’m going your fucking going too”.
Lampard has overseen eleven defeats in fourteen games !
In my opinion, Lampard should have got his marching orders way back early November.
In the space of four days the mighty Bournemouth beat us by the combined score of 7 – 1 – Lampard should have been sacked right then.
Fucking disgrace, and Lampard is too nice to ever make it as a top flight manager.
Dyche will be in for sure – surely?

Look at the state of following, and I am ignoring the shite out on loan like Gomes, Alli, etc.
Player recruitment has been bad traced back to Martinez and Niasse. We’ve spaffed £700m on transfers and probably more on wages, and it looks like they’ve not even been watched before we bought them.
Begavic – out of contract
Pickford – sold, England goalie isn’t going to stick around
Lonergan – out of contract
Coleman – retire
Coady – return loan
Mina – released
Vinagre – return loan
Patterson – sold, potentially decent elsewhere
Godfrey – someone will take him
Left Holgate, Mykolenko, Keane, Tarkowski – two are being shown the door, and the other two have been useless.
Doucoure – release
Davies – release
Onana – sold, will be good elsewhere
Townsend – release
Gordon – sold
Iwobi – sold
Left Gana, Garner, Gray, Mcneil. Gana looks finished, Garner not started, and the other two are championship.
Dcl – sold
Left Maupay, Simms – championship at best.
Job done. Three directors of football, and the tea lady could have done better asking Stevie Wonder

The players are a shambles, a fuckin’embarrassment to themselves let alone the club and quite how they pick up the wage they do beggars belief.
The boardroom and the “owner” we have deserve relegation and they will succeed this season where last May they narrowly failed.
The only losers in this as usual will be the fans.

“Farhad is a very impressive man who is a businessman and a successful one but he also understands football because hes been involved at Arsenal for a long time and thats very rare. He knows how to support a manager and how to be involved in a football team. Ive been impressed by his drive, he wants to have a winning team. Hes been following our results, performances and the reaction of the fans and I think hes become an Evertonian. Hes fallen in love with the club and what it means.” (Roberto Martinez)

Does anybody else think that the reason Moshiri said what he said was that the strategic review recommended that he should no longer be involved in hiring or firing managers after his many past mistakes. Also he may be the owner and majority shareholder but he is not a director and therefore can not attend or vote at board meetings.

I wanted Lampard.
I wanted Koeman.
I wanted Silva.
I wanted Ancelotti. What coup.
He delivered.
So let’s not get sidelined on, sack the board banners.
Silva and Koeman, never had us in this situation. They went, because we wanted Europe yesterday, with all of Usmanov riches.
I still want Lampard out. I believe we have the talent, to get us out of this mess. with a decent coach. Decent? yes.

I don’t expect Frank to resign. That does not happen in football. You either play, sit out your contract, get a subsidized loan to another club or take a cash payment to cancel your contract. Moshiri is telling Bill to figure out how to pay off the coaching staff and find another mug to take us down with no money or time to change the team. Maybe Duncan would give it a go because he loves the club so much but he will wait until we are in the Championship and the repercussions of our financial state are clear if he is smart.

2. He is sticking with Lampard to spite the fans given his last comments blaming us for the manager decisions
Ive always suspected Moshiri is just the laundrette for Usmanov because every time I hear Moshiri speak I think to myself there is no way this guy is competent to run a business – he sounds like a complete buffoon.
Kenwright definitely played a blinder here / he wanted to sell the club and make a fortune but was adamant he wanted to have day to day running of the club. This suited Usmanov and Moshiri as Usmanov can stay in the background and Moshiri cant tie his own shoe laces without asking Jim White for help.
Its an absolute disaster from top to bottom. No leadership, no direction, no strategy and imminent relegation.
As some have said on here already this wont just be relegation this will be Everton relegation.., complete and utter destruction. Likely points deduction renting the ground we wont own and spiralling down the leagues with a lost generation of fans
I feel for my five year old boy who is one of only two Everton fans in the class getting stick every day

but he won’t. This, he knows, is most probably his last gig in management, unless he decides to drop down to league 1 or moves abroad where the financial benefits will be much lower.
he’s a multi millionaire, but he also knows this is his last multi-million pay check.
he’ll next be sat in the Sky/Bein/BT studios and living the life as a pundit, and probably making his money in other business ventures.
So he won’t resign. But he should.
If he is still manager tomorrow, this club is an absolute shambles.
We need a new manager bounce in the hope we get some positive results against all logic against Arsenal and that lot over the park.
But we’re screwed. we really are. we need a miracle.

There were lots of furious young lads talking about the lack of “good times” and one guy who was with his young boy decked out in all the merchandise. It’s freezing and these fans would have had to go from their homes in Merseyside to Lime Street then to Euston and then out to Stratford which ain’t exactly nearby in the capital.
Our fans are pretty amazing. I’ve been to way more away games than home matches and they are brilliant. Stoke, Fulham, Reading, Saints, West Ham, QPR, Arsenal, Watford…they always support the team and out sing the home fans.

Just why is anyone at all surprised that Moshiri is about as plausible as Goebbels was to Arianism when it comes to football club ownership? All of his obscene personal wealth is accrued from kissing the ass of one of the various Putin acolytes who’ve financially raped their very own people to achieve vast wealth – now hugely de-valued in the UK on account of the mercilessly obscene invasion of Ukraine.
Just what is Sharp’s precise job definition? Ditto Ingles, and the corporate bullshitter Lil’ Miss D? Come to that what is Thelwell’s role, and, if our alleged owner won’t explain HIS OWN appointment of these people how the hell can anyone else, Everton fan or not, afford him one iota of credibility as he oversees OUR demise and the loss of his (allegedly) hundreds of £millions?
If anyone still believes BMD is the answer alone to rectify OUR shite-infested hierarchy’s ineptitude I despair.

It depresses me to realise that fan protest reduces the cost to our next avaricious owner in acquiring us but I genuinely think the club under Kenwright has long since squandered as a consequence any hope at all of us becoming a trophy winning team within my 68 year (and counting) lifetime.
Unless we’re bought by a venal nation/state of course, or a now financially castrated mega-player in fascistic states such as Russia perhaps.

Since he took over, no improvement at all! Relegation from day one he turned up! Only positive last season was 3 worst teams! The guy uses excuses time and time again! Yes the board get the flack but who actually interviewed frank? Director of football? The owner has a chain of command on manager and players to the director of football it would appear.
Frank won’t walk as he knows this is it as a football manager. Teams have not improved under his guidance. Not one area of our play has improved! We are open to conceeding and going forward is slow and predictable. Frank take the cheque and head back to sky and be an expert on the game. We might have some hope if Frank goes. Are these players this bad?
Next manager, dogs of war mentality! Experienced! Give 100% or get out! No time for snobbery about our next manager! We are not 2 players from champions league qualification! Next manager must bring fans on board behind the players! This is our club’s future and for generations of Everton fans! The board situation we can’t do sod all about as we are hanging from a cliff! New manager equals more hope and energy!

They will come to some agreement and Frank will leave by mutual consent.
Moshiri is having another pop at us supporters with that comment for sure and it leaves him neutral so the board can also take the flak. Absolute cowards the lot of them. Just like our midfielders in the first half not wanting to take responsibility and move forward.
Best outcome for us given the FFP is that we balance the books and take relegation on the chin or we are sold. It could get a whole lot worse if the truth comes out about Moshiri and Usmanov.

Like every manager in the last thirty years Frank’s hands have been tied when it comes to achieving trophies by the total ineptitude of those at the alleged top.
I have no doubt that Lampard was effectively and seriously deceived as to the truth of the club’s finances when he signed on. His very recent comment that, in terms, he’s not a miracle worker is so very reminiscent of Ancelotti towards the end of his departure to go on to restoring Real Madrid’s trophy winning legend.
Our manager under this owner/board is irrelevant.
End of.
We’re doomed.
