Right-wing YouTuber Steven Crowder is flipping out about the leak of a video clip that showed him verbally abusing his wife before she divorced him.
Now ex-employees are speaking out about their own experiences, which unfortunately include an incredible amount of unwanted contact with Crowder’s genitals.
His former co-host Dave Landau has spoken out openly, describing Crowder’s behavior as controlling and jealous, among other things.
Now, former employees are also speaking out, although with a bit more anonymity.
They’ve described a long list of bad behaviors they experienced or observed from Crowder during their times employed by his show, many of which involve him placing his genitals on another person’s body without apparent consent.
At least six ex-employees said they witnessed this themselves, and it seems to have been a known behavior.
In one incident, he allegedly placed his genitals on the shoulder of former producer Jared Monroe, when Monroe fell asleep in a van traveling back after a college show — apparently how the producer came to be called (by Crowder) “Not Gay Jared.”
He’s also reported to have placed his genitals on his assistant, John Goodman.
In separate incidents, he reportedly exposed his genitals to Monroe, and the aforementioned Landau, among others.
In addition to this pattern of sexually abusive behavior, he reportedly made employees do his laundry, and was known to assign unreasonable tasks with unrealistic timelines, in a way that an employee described as “set[ting] people up for failure.” From the New York Post:
“Charismatic and kind at times, a “volatile” Crowder could also be controlling and “capable of working every angle of your emotions.” With long hours, unrealistic expectations and emotional outbursts, he often burned through staffers — many of whom were young, starry eyed fans who had never worked in traditional media and relocated to Texas for the opportunity to work with their hero.”
Crowder as a man who likes to give impossible tasks and “set people up for failure” is a characterization that will resonate with anyone who watched the video clip where he first demands his wife shop for meat and barbecue pellets, then forbids her to take the car.
His former co-host spoke out on a podcast just last week, the Sun reports, saying that, while he enjoyed the job and the team, Crowder had a tendency to go on power trips, exhibit jealousy, and that maybe he’s acting out because “he was bullied at some point in his life.
Now, Landau says of Crowder, “He’s become the bully, and doesn’t realize it.”
Last week, Crowder, responding to the leaked video, announced he would be retaliating by attempting to have court files unsealed, including files regarding private medical information, presumably belonging to his ex-wife.
