The Quincy Orioles came away from their home invite victorious on Saturday, finishing the day undefeated to claim the crown.

QUINCY, MI. – The Quincy Lady Oriole varsity soccer team swept up Saturday at their annual Quincy Soccer Invitational, coming away from the round robin tournament with an undefeated record, meaning the championship trophy would stay home with the Lady Orioles.

In game one of the day, it was Quincy defeating the visitors from Comstock by the score of 5-2.

Quincy wasted little time getting on the board as Kallie Glei netted the first goal of the game, giving the Orioles a 1-0 lead. Comstock answered right back with a goal of their own just five minutes later, knotting up the score at 1-1.

Comstock actually went on to take a slim 2-1 lead at the half after scoring on a penalty shot just before the break.

Quincy came out of the half with a newfound energy, scoring four unanswered goals to race into the lead, eventually taking the 5-2 victory.

The Orioles were led in game one of the tournament by Kallie Glei who netted four goals while Sami Hollenbaugh added a goal of her own.

“The first game against Comstock we really controlled, we just struggled finishing early on,” said Quincy head coach Ivan Swift. “In the second half we did a much better job of moving the ball, which allowed us to get some really good shots on goal.”

In game two of the tournament, it was the Quincy defense doing the damage, as the Orioles and their goalkeeper Danica Swift pitched the shutout, defeating Parchment by the score of 3-0.

Quincy was led in the game two win by Glei with two more goals, making it six for the day for the Oriole playmaker. Also scoring for Quincy was Kaitlyn Galinis.

Quincy’s defense played an amazing 80 minutes, shutting down any chance of a Parchment goal with their stout play.

“In the second game against Parchment it was a battle for the first 15 minutes,” said Swift. “Both teams came out with a lot of intensity. It was really our defense that set the tone for the game, they played really well which frustrated the Parchment offense the whole game. Keeper Danica Swift made some key saves throughout the game.”

With the weekend victory the Quincy Orioles improve to an impressive 8-1 overall for the year. Quincy will be back in action on Monday when they host the Springport Spartans.
