Tottenham Hotspur tactician Antonio Conte has hinted at a return back to Italy once the season is over. The former Juventus and Inter coach joined Spurs in November 2021 and sees his existing contract expire at the end of the season.

Speaking to The Guardian (via TuttoJuve) in an exclusive interview, the decorated manager shed light on his personal life. In retrospect, he reflected upon the passing of his dear friends and how it affected him.

“Surely, this season is difficult from a personal point of view. Losing three people in such a short time whom I knew very well (Gian Piero Ventrone, Sinisa Mihajlovic and Gianluca Vialli, ed.) it was not easy. When this situation happens it leads you to have some important reflections. Many times we think and give great importance to our work and forget the family. We forget that we need to have more time for ourselves. This season is making me make an important reflection on my future.”

The ex-Chelsea man decided not to bring along his wife and daughter when he signed his contract in North London.

“When you work and work is at the top of your mind and in your head, maybe we forget to be with family and friends. This is our passion, and for passion we have lost many things. But when this situation happens, you start thinking that maybe it’s good to spend more time with your family and friends, and even with yourself. Work is not everything in life. Surely having my family in Italy is not good… not good. But when you have a son or a daughter and children in school then you have to respect them because if every year or two you have to take your children to totally change their environment… I don’t want to affect my family’s life.”

It is possible that Conte would take some time off his managerial career, perhaps similar to what he did in 2018 after ending a three-year stint at Chelsea. He was without a club for one year, before joining Inter and leading them to the Scudetto title in 2020/21.
